The 25' Pentimento is an extension of the beautiful series of daysailers created by N. G. Herreshoff, ranging in size from the beloved 12-1/2 to the 21' Fish class. The owners wanted the looks and solid sailing abilities of the Herreshoff classics in a boat large enough for some overnight cruising.
Pentimento was skillfully built in the traditional plank on frame method by the late Dave Corcoran in Arundel, Maine. She has demonstrated all the virtues of her cousins - able to ghost quickly along in light air and inspire confidence when reefed down in a blow. The interior layout is very simple with two berths, a portable toilet, a single burner stove and a folding sink. Removable solar panels ensure that the silent Elco electric propulsion system is always fully charged before the day's outing. There is also room for a small inboard diesel.
This design could be easily converted to fiberglass or cold molded construction. However, for the purist, one of the highly skilled traditional boatbuilders that dot the Maine coast would be glad to produce for you another exquisite planked beauty.
